❍ The Korean Disability Forum (KDF) gave a presentation at the Leaving No One Behind Session under the theme of ‘Climate Crisis and the Disabled’ (Presenter: Dr Joo Han LEE*, Research Fellow, Korean Disability Forum).

❍ According to World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) Statement on the state of the global climate in 2019, the year 2019 ended with a global average temperature of 1.1 °C above pre-industrial (1850-1900) averages.

❍ In this context, Dr Joo Han LEE proposed the Disability-Inclusive Policy linking the climate crisis and the right to move of persons with disabilities.

❍ By 2016, the introduction rate of intra-city low-floor buses was 19 percent in Korea. Also, below are the places where the introduction rate of intra-city low-floor buses was less than 20 percent by 2019.

- Chungnam: 9.3%, Ulsan: 12.2%, Gyeonggi: 13.6%, Jeonnam: 13.6%, Gyeongbuk: 15.2%

❍ Emphasising that eco-friendly public transportation is one of the ways to reduce carbon emissions, Dr LEE argued that the introduction of eco-friendly electric low-floor buses considering the mobility rights of persons with disabilities is necessary.
